What a much needed study! Especially separating violent pornography.

Neat idea! Did you consider asking about guilt related to viewing porn? This is completely based on my personal observations and I have no data to support this, but I often noticed that porn viewing seemed to only be problematic for my clients when they felt guilty about it. For example, if I had a client who looked at porn, but didn’t tell their partner about it, then they often felt guilty about it which then led to problems (eg anxiety, depression, decreased relationship satisfaction). I’m just curious whether you saw anything about guilt in the literature.

Great study! I think if you had higher levels of pornography consumption you might have found something. And I think that there is a difference between pornography watched alone and pornography watched as a couple together. When it is watched alone it might be related to less satisfaction and guilt – referencing Dr. Wilson’s point above!

Great project! Another thought related to Dr. Wilson’s is whether it makes a difference whether the pornography is watched alone or in the context of the relationship.

Sorry for repeating myself – it looked like the first comment had not gone through!

Very interesting. Do you worry about social desirability effects? Perhaps those willing to talk about pornography usage are systematically different than the overall population who use it.

    Great idea and great study.

I never thought that this would be a topic.
