I hadn’t seen the ACE information before – thank you for teaching me something new today!
Nice job coming up with a more unique question related to ACEs! In the trauma literature, there has been a ton of research looking at how maladaptive thoughts impact functioning. For example, many survivors of child abuse may think that they are “worthless” or “people can’t be trusted.” Those maladaptive thoughts then lead to psychosocial difficulties (eg depression, anxiety, poor school performance, interpersonal problems). Did you consider how metacognition may be different from or the same as how the literature has conceptualized “maladaptive thoughts?
Interesting idea! Do you feel that you had variability in the ACE scores of your participants? You reported the mean score as “8” but I had a little bit of a difficult time understanding what that meant in the context of the survey of 10 questions. Since you only had 67 participants, it seems possible that maybe you had some restriction of range for that particular variable that might make it hard to find a relationship.
I am floored that your average ACE score was 8. That is super high! I think this study has a lot of potential as there is less research on ACES and things like grades and study habits than there is on ACES and mental and physical health.
I enjoyed this presentation and I found it very interesting how one’s significant effect was found for the metacognition score. I found it interesting how the ACE score was high at a score of 8.
