A really timely study and findings that a lot of academic administrators should pay attention to!

I found this study most interesting as there is little data in regards to mental health, motivation, and school for the mere fact that we are living through uncharted territory. Studies about this from the past are not necessarily reliable because the world wasn’t experiencing a global pandemic and online schooling.

Very interesting study. I definitely think loneliness is having a big impact on mental health although I wonder if it is negatively affecting academic success quite as much – people might turn to doing their work if they don’t have friends and social engagements to distract them. I would have loved to seen the bivariates on your poster so I could see the strength of the relationships between the variables.

A really interesting topic to study and something that should really be focused on. In the past months mental health has been a rising concern due to stressors of COVID. How did you make sure the benefits of the study outweighed the risks for participants answering questions about their mental health?

This is so interesting! I definitely do think that loneliness and being completely online has a big impact on mental illness. Do you think the fact that the majority of participants were freshmen had anything to do with the results? For the rest of us, we’ve had the “college experience” and this is a drastic change, but for a group who hasn’t quite had that, do you think it impacts them as much, or in a different way?

I enjoyed this presentation. I found it interesting how people with depression symptoms are less engaged in their academic performance and how COVID has had an impact on student’s academic engagement, social engagement, and mental health and performing poorly in school.

This is a great study! I love how relevant it is and it is important! It is interesting yet not surprising that COVID-19 has a big effect on mental health, I think it does for most people! After reading the poster and watching the video, I scrolled through the comments and the comment made by Dr. Liss caught my eye! I think she made a good point that it would be interesting to see if loneliness had an impact on school work/achievement. Also, I liked your video a lot because it was straight to the point and informative.
