Thanks for sharing your research! I had wondered if there might be some familiarity effects or fatigue effects in play since participants saw all 3 videos. Did you counterbalance the order of presentation, or did they always see them in the same order? If you didn’t counterbalance, how did you decide on your presentation order?
I’m also curious about your DV. Of the 3 items you showed in your presentation, 2 were directly about air quality, and the 3rd was more general. What proportion of the questions were directly ties to this specific environmental issue rather than more overarching ideas/actions in this broad domain?
This was an interesting and engagingly presented research project. I would have been interested to see the survey taken before the participants had seen any videos to act as a control. You alluded to the possibility of common factors invoking a similar response in your final slide, and I would have really liked to see some data pertaining to that. Overall, good presentation!
This was very interesting! It was mentioned that there is an emotional element that is not mentioned in previous literature, which was the possible guilt factor due to individuals not taking action to help the environment. Do you think that trying to display more hopeful messages in advertisements, rather than ones that cause guilt, may actually encourage people to take more individual action to help the environment?
I think this was a very interesting presentation on something I have not done much research or investigation into. The overall flow of presentation was very good and I thought the structure of the experiment was well done. I think your hypothesis can apply to more areas than just advertisements. Fear and guilt are powerful tools that have been used in the past to coerce or influence a person decisions. I appreciated your thoughts on why the results did not support your hypothesis and found the experiment overall very interesting.
Good job on your project! I think one of the most important things about conducting research like this is to notice how things could have been done differently. I agree with your assessment that the combination of all three videos in succession likely impacted the results in some way. What I would not have thought of was your mention of proximity. People’s need to travel on a regular basis and their accessibility to public transportation both may have played a role in how they responded to the questionnaire. Do you think there is a way to adjust the questionnaire to more broadly assess opinions about environmentally friendly behaviors or do you think that may have no effect?
